The New York Knicks are in a strange situation as they have promising future players but they are stuck in a hole with Carmelo Anthony. They have wanted to trade him for the past two years and they have not been able to do that simply because he is not worth the headache. He provides little to no defense and he is allergic to passing. He seems to become more of a cancer in the last couple of years instead of a leader. The key to the Knicks progress going forward is to trade Anthony and build solely around Kristaps Porzingis. Below is the projected starting lineup from me.
PG: Frank Nitilinka
SG: Tim Hardaway Jr.
SF: Carmelo Anthony (If traded this would be Michel Beasley)
PF: Kristaps Porzingis
C: Willy Hernangomez
6th Man: Courtney Lee
This team from top to bottom is primarily offensive threats but hardly any defense. The Knicks have no one capable of guarding superstar wings like James Harden or Jimmy Butler. The Knicks PG is super shaky with a rookie, but they do have veteran and NBA journeyman Ramon Sessions. There is very rarely an instance where a rookie PG takes their team to anywhere. Frank Nitilinka is a very suspect prospect to begin with coming out of France and the fact that he will be leading their team is concerning as it normally take about a year or two to become a legit threat at PG. The Knicks also overpaid heavily for SG Tim Hardaway Jr. I am not saying he was bad last year, but he is not 4-year $71 million good. Obviously, you know my feelings on Carmelo Anthony as stated above. The front court has a good future with Kristaps as the cornerstone and Hernangomez can be a solid center moving forward. The depth is just not there on the bench and the team is poorly constructed right now. I do not see anything good happening in New York this year. Good luck Knicks.
